Install the Client
This is the player-side setup — how to install the FiveM for GTAV Enhanced client and connect to Enhanced servers. It takes a few minutes. The single most common mistake is clicking the wrong download button, so watch for that in Step 2.
Requirements
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| GTA V Enhanced | The Enhanced (Gen9) build on PC — Steam, Epic Games Store, or Rockstar Games Launcher |
| Platform | Windows PC only — the Xbox / console version can't be used |
| Storage | Space for the client + a server-content cache (a separate drive is supported) |
Step 1 — Install and launch GTA V Enhanced
Install Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced from Steam, Epic, or the Rockstar Games Launcher, then launch it once and let it fully update. FiveM uses your existing game installation — it does not modify the game files, so you can still switch between GTA Online and FiveM without a ban.
Step 2 — Download the Enhanced client
- Go to fivem.net.
- Click "Download FiveM for GTAV Enhanced" — the tile labeled "Currently In Early-Access. Requires Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced."
Step 3 — Run the installer
Enhanced ships a new installer that gives you more control than the old one:
- Install location — choose where the FiveM Enhanced client is installed.
- Cache folder / drive — optionally put the server-content cache on a separate folder or drive (handy if your system drive is small).
- Shortcuts — choose whether to create Desktop and Start Menu shortcuts.
Step 4 — Launch and connect
Open FiveM for GTAV Enhanced from your shortcut, browse the server list, and connect. The client also automatically clears cached files for servers that no longer serve them, keeping your cache tidy.
Troubleshooting
I connected but the server won't load / says wrong version
Enhanced and Legacy are not cross-compatible. An Enhanced client can only join Enhanced (Cfx Server) servers, and a Legacy client can only join Legacy servers. Make sure you launched the right client for the server you're joining.
Errors like "GTA5.exe not found" or "GTA 5 Enhanced not supported"
Most of these messages are from before launch (2025–early 2026), when FiveM didn't yet support Enhanced. As of July 21, 2026, use the dedicated "Download FiveM for GTAV Enhanced" installer with an owned GTA V Enhanced PC copy. Treat older dated search results and videos with caution.
The installer can't find my GTA V Enhanced install
Launch GTA V Enhanced once through its own launcher (Steam/Epic/Rockstar) so it's fully installed and registered, then run the FiveM Enhanced installer again. Confirm you installed the Enhanced build, not Legacy.
